Installing Noetix Add-in for Microsoft Excel

Review System Requirements

Make sure that your client computer meets the system requirements. The system requirements of the add-in can be found on the Knowledge area of the insightsoftware Support Community.

Grant Administrative Privileges

You must have administrative privileges on the computer on which you plan to install the add-in. If you need assistance with this task, contact your system administrator.

Update Configuration Settings

During the installation of add-in, you need to specify the server name in theNoetix Excel Add-In Config.ini file. Optionally, you can customize other report settings also in the configuration file.

After the installation, if you need to make any changes, use the Settings menu of the add-in. The changes made to the configuration file will not be reflected in the add-in.

The configuration file contains the default values for the report settings and is available in the folder that has the add-in executable file. All parameters in this file must have a value. You must use a text editor to modify this file.

The following parameters are available in the configuration file:

Gateway: The parameters in this section determine the server details.

Server: The name of the Noetix Gateway (gateway) server to which the add-in will connect. This is the default server.

Port: The port to which the gateway connects. By default, it is 80.

SSL: Whether Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is used on the server that the add-in is connecting to. If you want to use SSL when the add-in connects to the server, then the protocol must be configured on the server you are connecting to and you must specify the value as one (1). By default, the value is zero (0). If the value is 0, then SSL will not be used when the add-in connects to the server.

Execution Settings: The parameters in this section set limitations on the running of the reports.

Batch rows: The number of rows for each batch. The reports will be retrieved in batches of the specified number of rows. By default, the value is zero (0), and the report is returned without any limitation on the number of rows.

Row limit: The number of rows to be returned. The query will return only the specified number of rows. Any additional rows will not be retrieved. By default, the value is zero (0), and the report is returned without any limitation on the number of rows.

Timer: The maximum time (in minutes) for which you want a report to run. If a report takes longer than the specified time, it will stop running. By default, the value is zero (0), and the report is returned without any limitation on the run time.

Report Settings: The parameter in this section determines whether the data in the reports will automatically fit the columns.

Auto fit: By default, the value is one (1). If you do not want this feature to be available, specify zero (0) as the value. If the value is 0 and the data in the report does not fit the columns, then part of the data may be hidden.

Advanced Settings: The parameter in this section determines whether the add-in should check for “Query in Excel” embedded queries that are created in Noetix WebQuery (NWQ) when the workbook is opened.

Scan worksheets: By default, the value is one (1). If you do not want this feature to be available, specify zero (0) as the value. If the value is 0, the add-in does not check for the embedded queries in the workbook. In such a case, the embedded queries and the add-in reports will exist in the same Excel file. Because the embedded queries and the add-in reports work differently, the features of the embedded queries will not be applicable for the add-in reports and vice-versa. Therefore, having all the reports in the workbook in the same format helps in eliminating any confusion.
